[VoxSpace Selects] Young Sheldon : The Prequel Origin Story To TBBT’s Sheldon Cooper Is Exactly As Fun As You Thought It Would Be

Prequel To The Big Bang Theory – Young Sheldon

The time when Sheldon Cooper didn’t have a Doctor before his name.

As ardent followers of ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ you probably won’t be wrong to consider Dr. Sheldon Cooper as the most amazing character on the planet. Can you imagine a 9-year-old Sheldon in a bow tie? If not, you absolutely have to watch the new series, Young Sheldon – a prequel to The Big Bang Theory. The pilot episode of the series aired on CBS yesterday. And to break the record, it is already the biggest comedy premiere in six years on the channel.

The show begins with a voice over in Jim Parson’s voice making the audience truly connect with the show. Exposing the time when he is naive, it doesn’t ignore his idiosyncrasies.

Undoubtedly a prodigy, to raise the bar of the character’s diligence, he is put in the same high school class as his elder brother.

Though a prequel, the show can’t be called The Big Bang theory with a kid. It is solely about how the character developed to what he is known today – a true germophobic, a mathematical genius, showing off his wit with every line he says. When asked to admit that he is adopted, in his unremarkable wisdom he replies, “How can I be adopted when I have a twin sister?”

Young Sheldon Has Enough Doses Of Jim Parson’s For The Fans Too

If you still feel more loyal to Jim Parson, don’t worry! He still has a huge role to play. Being the one who is the brainchild behind the idea of the show, he is actually serving as the executive producer of the show. Nonetheless, you will witness his voiceover narration to key parts of the series. It stars Iain Armitage as the younger version of the nerdy eccentric lovable genius. Earlier this year, he was seen as playing the role of the youngest self of the character, Brian in the movie ‘The Glass Castle’.

Young Sheldon, however, has Armitage’s stellar performance till date. Backed by an amazing supporting cast the show has, Zoe Perry as Sheldon’s mother, Raegan Revord as the twin sister ‘Missy Cooper,’ Montana Jordan as his elder brother ‘George Cooper Jr.’ and Lance Barber as his father.

Fun Fact: Zoe Perry (Young Sheldon’s mother) is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf who plays Sheldon’s mother in the parent show. Undoubtedly, her spitting image can be sensed in the pilot episode of the new show.
