VoxTalks With Sravya Kothalanka : The Psychedelic Artist Who Is Redefining The Creative World In The City

Nearly a decade later, Sravya Kothalanka's innovative fusion of psychedelic art, music, and mythology continues to inspire a new generation of Indian creative minds.

Why Sravya Kothalanka Matters to Indian Indie Artists

Sravya’s work demonstrates that psychedelic art isn’t just a visual experience—it’s a philosophical stance that merges mythology, music, and personal expression. Her multi-disciplinary approach challenges traditional art hierarchies in India and proves that indie artists can create boundary-pushing work without mainstream validation.

Every now and then, we come across an artist, who is wise beyond the age, and talented beyond the mundane. These artists, mad and crazy people that they are, tend to create something spectacular which transcends the narrow bridge of time and space. One such artist is with us today. She goes by the name Sravya Kothalanka, and tends to deliver magic to mere mortals, via her noir and psychedelic art forms, and accompanying the same with some incredible music. We absolutely love her for the artist she is, and you’ll do too when you just take a look at her modern day renditions of mythological beings. So then, it was imperative that we got talking about what made Sravya click and blessed. The excerpts of the interview below…

Sravya Explaining Her Creative Overlaps Between Art, Music and Literature…

I’ve recently realised that all these art and literature forms I’m bound to, are easily and closely related. All of them are psychedelic. What I say.. write, sing or paint is all interconnected. I kind of life in a fantasy world and that is me. I am my influence. I get high on my abilities. Each ability competes with each other and my mind refuses to stay idle.

Managing Three Facebook Pages, One For Each Talent Of Hers…

Haha I know, so many pages and accounts… I fail to manage all the pages regularly but all of them are functioning. Occasionally, lol.
Kothalanka Project is my music group. Not a band… Music GROUP cause I’m an individual artist who doesn’t play any instrument. I write and make music with a couple of my musician friends. They all have got their own badass bands and I don’t want them to work for me half-assed. So It’s just Kothalanka project until I release my EP in a few days…
Vichitralu is my artist name and it means “weird” in Telugu. Anearth is my poetry and article page and the word means “catastrophe” in Sanskrit. All of this because I want to catalogue all my work category wise. I don’t want to be a jack of all and master of none!
Also, I’m skilled in a lot of other ways too ‘;)’… Other talents will only be revealed with time.

Of Undergoing Fatal Surgeries And Becoming Supernatural…

Heart surgery wasn’t a big deal until people stared at my chest and freaked out. A lot of people go through heart surgeries and I’m glad I was born with the problem and got rid of it pretty quick. My childhood was just sligggggggghtly tough, but now here I am, more than normal.. close to a supernatural. And I depict myself as Goddess Kali a lot. And love to paint her the most. (Painting of me as Kali)

As Sravya Explains The Kothalanka Project…

To be honest, I haven’t achieved much yet. I don’t understand how am I getting to give so many interviews based on music. I haven’t released my original composition yet. A trailer, yes. And the response is already wonderful.
So right now I’m working on myself and my music rigorously, all set to have a music career in full swing.
I write a lot of Telugu and a little English. I suck at Telugu, but that’s the best I write in hahaha
My genre is called “psychedelic rock steady”.. cause its a fusion of psychedelic rock and reggae.

Of Coming Out With Rebelliously Noir Artworks And Feeling The Inspirations And Connecting…

I feel the energies of the subject I’m painting. Be it a bird, a tree, or a person. I feel what the particular person/person emits. Good vibes, or bad vibes. I paint people’s psychedelic portraits. Not faces.
Painting is my absolute meditation. I’m beyond myself when I’m doing it.; Of course, all that I do are. But painting is my psychological support. Many people call me crazy. I kind of agree to that. I have a passion, a possession and a purpose. It’s the good kind of madness and I’m glad a majority of people from the city are getting me and supporting me on that. Power to all of them giving me the support! Means so much. I’m a knowledge freak. My biggest inspiration is Leonardo DaVinci. Man, that dude is crazy! I want to create problems to who have a narrow mind and at the same time empower them to expand it, like Leonardo.

Days Of The Future And Sravya Kothalanka…

Kothalanka Project has a lot of things coming up. This is my first, and I swear I won’t disappoint. Myself? I’m a “troubled genius”. There’s so much of pain and power in me at the same time, and I’m hoping to be able t go places with that. 7 years from now, I might join the 27 club or be the next snoop dogg.
