Malayalam Period Movie ‘Veeram’ Has Kunal Kapoor In A MacBeth Warrior Adaptation

The trailer of Malayalam period drama Veeram starring Kunal Kapoor came out a few hours back. The world premiere of National Award-winning director Jayaraj’s Veeram was held at Siri Fort on Sept 2. This historical drama was the first film screened for the BRICS Film Festival with its director and cast members Kunal Kapoor and Divinaa Thackur in attendance.
Set in the 13th century Kerala, the film is about the character Chandu Chekavar, made famous through folklore literature and songs of Kerala. Sharing broad similarities with the rise and fall of Macbeth, Veeram spans the journey of Chandu, a Kalaripayattu warrior who meets a tragic end as an outcome of his betrayal.
Jayaraj said,” I am happy and proud for this opportunity which I got ,presenting the first screening of my latest movie Veeram, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth especially in this quadricentennial of the great writer. BRICS has honored our work by choosing Veeram to be world premiered as their opening film.”

The film, which also takes inspirations from the Vadakkan Pattukal (Northern Ballads) of North Malabar region in South India has Himarshi Venkataswamy as the female lead in it.
